What Makes 'If Wishes Could Kill' a Must-Watch Supernatural Thriller?
Exploring the Dark World of 'If Wishes Could Kill'
The South Korean series "If Wishes Could Kill" has captured the spotlight with its intriguing mix of teenage drama and supernatural horror. Available on a well-known streaming service, the show centers around a mysterious application called Girigo, which grants wishes but comes with fatal consequences. All eight episodes were released on April 24, crafted by writer Park Joong-seop and directed by Park Youn-seo, featuring a stellar cast including Jeon So-young, Kang Mi-na, Baek Sun-ho, Hyun Woo-seok, Lee Hyo-je, Jeon So-nee, and Roh Jae-won.
As the plot progresses, not every character makes it through the terrifying events instigated by the app. Survivors such as Yoo Se-ah, Kang Ha-joon, and Kim Geon-woo, along with shaman Kang Ha-sal and Bang Ui, play crucial roles in fighting against the curse. However, the group suffers heavy losses, including the shocking early death of Choi Hyun-wook and Lim Na-ri, who becomes a victim after being possessed by the dark force behind the app.
The origins of this chilling tale can be traced back to two students, Hye-ryung and Si-won. What started as a straightforward coding project turned chaotic when Hye-ryung, in a moment of despair, activated the app before her tragic demise, inadvertently placing a curse upon it. Si-won later intensified the curse, ensuring its lingering effects on subsequent users.
In a thrilling climax, Yoo Se-ah journeys into the spiritual world with Kang Ha-sal's help, discovering that the curse's true origin lies within Si-won’s phone. By destroying the device, she seemingly ends the cycle of deaths. Although the immediate danger appears to be over, the survivors are left with profound emotional wounds. The finale, while initially gratifying, is complicated by a mid-credit scene that introduces a new character who finds Na-ri’s phone and reactivates the Girigo app with assistance from a mysterious online user.
This surprising twist hints that the narrative may not be finished yet. While there has been no official announcement regarding a second season, the possibility of revisiting the curse and introducing a fresh group of victims is certainly exciting for fans of the show.
