A Heartfelt Farewell to Zubeen Garg

The untimely passing of renowned singer Zubeen Garg has created a significant loss in the Indian music scene. Fans and family members are currently gathering at the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati to honor his memory. His funeral is scheduled for today, September 23, following a second autopsy at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, which will be conducted with the oversight of doctors from AIIMS-Guwahati.


Regarding the second autopsy, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the Assam government approved this request in response to social media calls for transparency. He mentioned, “A new demand emerged on social media on Tuesday for another autopsy of Garg’s body in Assam. Considering this and after consulting with his family, the state government has decided to proceed with a second autopsy in Guwahati.”


CM Sarma also shared an emotional tribute to Zubeen Garg on social media, expressing, “Just hours remain before #BelovedZubeen embarks on his final journey. Earlier today, I joined his supporters at Sarusajai Stadium to pay my respects. The past two days have reflected the immense love he received from the public. There will never be another Zubeen.”



The funeral for Zubeen Garg will commence at 7:30 AM from the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex, with the cremation set to occur in Kamarkuchi, Sonapur. His final rites will be conducted with full state honors.


Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19, with the news confirmed by a representative from the North East India Festival in Singapore. Anuj Kumar Boruah, the representative, shared, “It is with great sorrow that we announce Zubeen Garg’s death. He faced breathing difficulties while scuba diving and was promptly given CPR before being transported to Singapore General Hospital. Despite all efforts, he was pronounced dead in the ICU around 2:30 PM IST.”


Beginning his professional singing career in 1992, Zubeen released his first album, ‘Anamika’. He recorded his initial songs, ‘Tumi Junu Pariba Hun’ and ‘Tumi Junaki Hubakh’, in 1993. After releasing his first Bihu album, Ujan Piriti, he moved to Mumbai in 1995, where he gained fame with the song ‘Ya Ali’ from the film ‘Gangster’ in 2006.
