Tribute to Madhumita Raut: Celebrated Odissi Dancer Passes Away at 59
Madhumita Raut's Untimely Demise
New Delhi: The esteemed Odissi dancer Madhumita Raut has passed away due to a cardiac arrest on Saturday at the age of 59.
Her brother, Manoj Raut, shared that she had been unwell for a while and was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Delhi when she suffered a severe cardiac event at 6:22 AM.
Madhumita is survived by her two younger brothers, Manoj and Manmath.
As the daughter of the renowned Odissi guru Mayadhar Raut, she was honored with numerous accolades for her contributions to Odissi dance, including the Bharat Nirman Award in 1997, the Orissa State Ghungur Samman in 2010, and the Odisha Living Legend Award in 2011.
Her artistic journey took her to prestigious dance festivals across various countries, including India, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Hungary, Austria, Spain, Morocco, France, Portugal, Japan, and the United States.
Madhumita's repertoire featured choreographic works inspired by poetry, including pieces based on Goethe's writings, as well as collaborative fusion performances with Balinese dancer Dia Tantri in the Netherlands.
Her final rites are scheduled to take place at 3:30 PM on Saturday at the Lodhi Crematorium in Delhi.
