Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, a well-known actor in Bengali television, met a tragic end while shooting for his series, Bholebaba Paar Karega, near Talsari beach. Reports suggest that he drowned during the filming, raising serious safety issues regarding on-set protocols. The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has demanded a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. They have also reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling for the arrest of the show's producer, Leena Gangopadhyay, on murder charges. Furthermore, the association is advocating for a special investigation team (SIT) inquiry and strict enforcement of safety regulations.
AICWA Appeals to PM Modi Regarding Banerjee's Death
AICWA has shared a letter directed to Prime Minister Modi, urging immediate action against the producers of Bholebaba Paar Karega. They assert that the lack of safety measures on set contributed to the tragic incident, resulting in the loss of a prominent figure in the Bengali film industry. The committee is also pushing for a murder FIR against producer Leena Gangopadhyay, the production house Magic Moments Motion Pictures (including Saibal Banerjee), and the channel JioHotstar, citing all applicable criminal laws.
In their final remarks on social media, AICWA expressed that the passing of Rahul Arunoday Banerjee has left a deep void in West Bengal and the Bengali film community. His family and friends are calling for justice.
Incident Details Surrounding Banerjee's Death
On March 29, at approximately 5:30 PM, Rahul Arunoday Banerjee tragically lost his life while filming at Talsari beach, located near the Odisha-West Bengal border. He was reportedly shooting a scene with co-actor Sweta Mishra in shallow waters when both actors unexpectedly fell into a ditch. Crew members rushed them to a hospital in Digha, but unfortunately, doctors declared Rahul dead upon arrival.
Local authorities have indicated that the production team did not inform them or obtain the necessary permits for filming at that site. An investigation is currently in progress. Rahul's funeral was held on March 31, 2026, in Kolkata.
