Tom Holland's Journey to Sobriety


Tom Holland, the renowned Hollywood actor, made the decision to stop drinking in January 2022, labeling alcohol as an "incredibly dangerous thing." The star of Spider-Man took part in the ‘Dry January’ initiative, which led him to recognize his growing obsession with alcohol. In 2024, he introduced his own non-alcoholic beer brand, Bero. When asked by USA Today if his life would have taken the same path without sobriety, Holland remarked, “That’s a really big question.”

During his conversation with USA Today, Holland expressed gratitude for the past four years, noting how his career has flourished beautifully. He stated, "I don't know how much of that would've come to fruition had I still been drinking."


Holland faces significant scrutiny regarding his personal life and believes that alcohol exacerbates the pressures of fame. He shared, "Drinking was something that was ultimately really getting in the way of my professional life." He elaborated on the stress of being an actor and how alcohol intensified those challenges. Since eliminating alcohol from his life, he feels more like himself, waking up clear-headed and confident each day.

Holland believes his perspective on alcohol resonates with many young people today. He is set to reprise his role as the Marvel superhero alongside Zendaya in the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He has previously shared his experiences with sobriety, noting that his friends have also reduced their drinking habits. He mentioned, "All of my friends have really slowed down drinking. I had all of my mates over the other night. That used to be, like, a really, really boozy affair.”


In a personal challenge, Holland decided to abstain from alcohol until his birthday in June to demonstrate to himself that he did not have a problem. By the time he reached his self-imposed deadline, he felt he was “the happiest I’ve ever been in my life.”
