Cricket Controversy Involving Tollywood Actors

Actors Vijay Deverakonda and Venkatesh Daggubati from Tollywood have found themselves embroiled in a cricket-related legal dispute. The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) has issued legal notices to these stars, along with cricketers Tilak Varma, Ambati Rayudu, and Mohammed Siraj. This action stems from their involvement with the TG20 League, a cricket tournament organized by the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), which the TCA claims is operating without the necessary approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Reasons Behind the Legal Notices

Why Did TCA Send Legal Notice To Vijay Deverakonda, Venkatesh Daggubati?

The TCA has formally accused the HCA of falsely asserting 'BCCI approval' for the TG20 League in public statements without providing any official documentation. This, according to the TCA, misleads sponsors, players, and other stakeholders involved.

Furthermore, the TCA has cautioned corporations, sponsors, broadcasters, and franchises against engaging with any unapproved or contentious league, highlighting potential legal and financial repercussions. By targeting celebrities with these notices, the TCA implies that endorsing this league implicates them in the ongoing issues.

Notices were dispatched on June 17, 2026, under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, and Tort Law. D Guruva Reddy, the General Secretary of TCA, indicated that more celebrities associated with the TG20 League might soon receive similar notices.

Additionally, the TCA has raised concerns about financial misconduct, alleging that the HCA intends to auction TG20 franchises for amounts ranging from Rs 3–10 crore per team, aiming for a turnover exceeding Rs 100 crore, and establishing third-party rights without proper authorization.

How Are Vijay Deverakonda, Venkatesh Daggubati Connected To TG20 League?

Vijay Deverakonda has been appointed as the official Brand Ambassador for the Sreenidhi University TG20 League, which is set to commence at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on June 21. He expressed his pride in supporting the league and its mission to uncover new cricket talent from Telangana.

Venkatesh Daggubati publicly launched the TG20 League logo alongside former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu at a Hyderabad event. His prominent involvement with the league has made him a target for the TCA's legal actions. Both actors serve as ambassadors and public representatives of the league, which the TCA views as making them directly accountable.
