Tiger vs Pathaan: Anticipated Film on Hold as YRF Rethinks Strategy

Status Update on Tiger vs Pathaan
The eagerly awaited crossover film, Tiger vs Pathaan, featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, has reportedly been paused but is not completely abandoned. Earlier this year, Salman suggested that the project was 'not happening' at the moment, but recent updates indicate that Yash Raj Films (YRF) is revising the film's creative direction instead of shelving it entirely.
As per a report from a media outlet, YRF's head, Aditya Chopra, is reassessing the trajectory of the studio's spy universe, which has begun to feel overly repetitive. A source mentioned, 'Aditya feels that the Spy Universe films are heading towards redundancy and require a refreshed approach to storytelling and presentation. He is currently reevaluating its roadmap and implementing significant changes to future projects.'
The insider further stated, 'The goal is not to discard existing high-profile projects but to ensure that upcoming films like Tiger vs Pathaan take a new creative direction. The intention is to prevent formula fatigue by introducing innovative storytelling techniques.' An official statement from YRF is still pending.
The YRF Spy Universe kicked off with Salman Khan's Ek Tha Tiger in 2012 and has since expanded with titles like Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), War (2019), and Pathaan (2023), which introduced Shah Rukh Khan as RAW agent Pathaan. The universe continues to evolve with upcoming projects such as Tiger 3, War 2, and Alpha, featuring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh.
On the professional front, Salman Khan was last seen in Sikandar, which premiered on Eid 2025, while Shah Rukh Khan is set to appear next in King.
