The Super Mario Galaxy Movie: A Box Office Hit on Its Own Terms!
Box Office Success of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
The animated feature "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" has shown remarkable box office results, even though it hasn't quite reached the heights of its predecessor. Within a month of its debut, the film has exceeded its global break-even point, raking in substantial revenue worldwide. As it continues to screen in theaters, it is likely to remain a strong contender at the box office.
On its third Tuesday, the film earned $3 million in North America, making it the third-highest earning video game adaptation for that day. However, it did not match the earnings of "The Super Mario Bros Movie," which brought in $4.5 million, nor did it surpass "A Minecraft Movie," which made $3.5 million. The film saw a 36.4% drop from the previous Tuesday, accumulating a total of $361.8 million in domestic earnings.
As per Box Office Mojo, "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" is anticipated to exceed $400 million internationally by this weekend. Currently, with an overseas total of $393.9 million, its global earnings have reached $755.8 million, putting it just under $50 million shy of the $800 million mark. The film was made with a budget of $110 million, and according to the industry’s 2.5x multiplier rule, its break-even point is set at $275 million.
Having already surpassed its domestic break-even target by nearly $100 million, the film has generated almost seven times its production cost in just 21 days since its release. Industry analysts predict that the sequel could gross between $1 billion and $1.1 billion during its theatrical run. While it may not exceed the $1.36 billion global total of its predecessor, it is still expected to yield a significant return on investment.
