Overview of the Controversy Surrounding 'Jana Nayagan'

Thalapathy Vijay's latest movie, Jana Nayagan, has been making headlines for several reasons. On April 9, an HD version of the film was leaked online prior to receiving certification from the CBFC. Following this incident, authorities apprehended nine individuals linked to the leak. Recently, police arrested a CCTV technician at a vote-counting center, who allegedly downloaded the film illegally using Facebook.

T Yuvraj, the technician employed on a contract basis at Anna University, was recruited through the Election Commission ahead of the Tamil Nadu Elections 2026. While on duty at the vote-counting center, he reportedly watched Jana Nayagan on his laptop.

How Did Facebook Help Police To Catch CCTV Staffer?

According to reports, Yuvraj posted a selfie on Facebook while watching Jana Nayagan on his laptop around 11 PM on April 23. The image, which went viral, displayed multiple CCTV screens in the background. He was caught in the act inside the CCTV control room at Anna University, which served as a vote-counting center in Chennai. After the polling concluded, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were securely stored in three strong rooms across Chennai, including one at the university.

Upon discovering Yuvraj's actions, an IT official from the Greater Chennai Corporation lodged a police complaint. Investigations revealed that he had viewed the film before the EVMs were relocated to the room on April 23. Notably, Vijay, the actor and leader of TVK, has yet to comment on the unfolding situation at the vote-counting center.
