Suriya's Retro Set for OTT Release on Netflix

The film Retro, featuring Tamil superstar Suriya in the lead role, is expected to debut on an OTT platform following its successful theatrical release. Despite receiving a mixed reception, the film performed well at the box office. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, it also stars Pooja Hegde, Joju George, Jayaram, and Karunakaran.

As reported by OTTplay, Retro is slated to be available on Netflix starting June 5, 2025. However, neither the filmmakers nor the streaming service has officially confirmed this release date.

There were initial rumors suggesting that Retro was intended for Thalapathy Vijay. However, director Karthik Subbaraj clarified that the script was originally crafted for superstar Rajinikanth. In a recent interview, he stated, 'This story was not written for Thalapathy Vijay sir, as being speculated. I wrote this script keeping in mind Thalaivar. Initially, it was more in the action zone to suit Thalaivar’s image. After narrating it to Suriya sir, it was changed to a love story. Even Suriya sir asked me if I narrated the script to Rajinikanth sir.'

In addition to Suriya and Pooja, the cast includes Karunakaran, Nassar, Prakash Raj, Joju George, Jayaram, Sujith Shankar, and Singampuli in significant roles, with Shriya Saran making a cameo appearance.

On another note, Suriya's recent film, Kanguva, did not perform well at the box office. This film featured Bobby Deol, Disha Patani, Natty Subramaniam, K. S. Ravikumar, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Ravi Raghavendra, and Karunas.
