Suriya's Karuppu Faces Setback with Cancellation of Special Shows
Cancellation of Special Morning Shows
In a recent development, Suriya's upcoming film Karuppu has encountered a significant hurdle as producer SR Prabhu announced that the special 9 AM screenings planned for its release on May 14 have been cancelled. This decision comes despite the support from Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister Vijay, who had previously granted permission for early screenings of the film. In response, director RJ Balaji reached out to Suriya's fans, urging them to remain patient and expressing confidence that Karuppu Saami would assist in overcoming the challenges faced for a successful release. The action drama also features Trisha Krishnan in a prominent role.
Reasons Behind the Cancellation
Dream Warrior Pictures, associated with SR Prabhu, issued a statement saying: "Due to unavoidable circumstances, the 9 AM shows for Karuppu have been cancelled. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused!" Following this announcement, RJ Balaji took to social media, sharing his emotional response and admitting that he lacked a definitive explanation for the situation. However, he reassured fans that the production team was diligently working to resolve the issues. He noted that Karuppu has faced numerous challenges over the last 32 months but expressed unwavering faith that the film would ultimately triumph and release as intended.
Nikilesh Surya from Rohini Silver Screens, a well-known cinema in Chennai, indicated that the film is expected to release once the current issues are addressed. He mentioned that they had received requests to halt bookings for Karuppu, but remained optimistic that the distribution team would resolve all outstanding matters, ensuring the film's timely release. He also noted that bookings have been temporarily suspended until further clarity is provided, but all reservations would be honored if the film is released at 9 AM.
Additionally, theatres and international film distributors have confirmed the cancellation of the film's premieres. Reports suggest that the release has been delayed due to financial complications. Fans have expressed their disappointment over this news, voicing their support for the team while feeling that the situation is unjust.
Overview of Karuppu

The film is set for a global theatrical release on May 14, 2026.
