Day 16 Box Office Performance: Karuppu Approaches Vijay’s Varisu

After a successful 15-day run, Karuppu has entered its third weekend with a significant increase in audience turnout, reversing the previous weekday decline. On Day 16, the film earned Rs 5.15 crore nett in India, marking a 58.5 percent rise from the previous day's Rs 3.25 crore. This brings the film's total nett collection in India to Rs 176.55 crore, with a gross of Rs 204.21 crore. In addition to chasing milestones, Karuppu is climbing the all-time Tamil box office rankings, now just Rs 21.8 crore shy of overtaking Thalapathy Vijay’s Varisu, which stands at Rs 299.2 crore globally.

If successful, this achievement would place Karuppu among the top 10 highest-grossing Tamil films worldwide, marking a significant milestone for Suriya. On Day 16, the film also garnered Rs 2 crore from international markets, bringing its total overseas earnings to Rs 77.75 crore.

RJ Balaji Discusses Karuppu's Journey

In a recent interview, director RJ Balaji revealed that Karuppu was initially intended to be Thalapathy Vijay’s last film before his political career. Although the project ultimately went to Suriya, Balaji noted that discussions with Vijay helped refine the script. He mentioned that Vijay expressed interest in the story during their early talks and requested time to consider his involvement. However, due to his political commitments, Vijay eventually opted out of the film. Balaji expressed respect for Vijay’s decision and appreciated the time he dedicated to the script discussions.
