Supreme Court Fines Comedian Samay Raina ₹10 Lakh for Violating Court Orders
Supreme Court's Ruling on Samay Raina
The Supreme Court has imposed a hefty fine of ₹10 lakh on comedian Samay Raina due to his blatant disregard for previous commitments made to the court. This ruling is associated with the controversy surrounding 'India's Got Latent' that emerged last year. Various parties, including Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchalani, and the Cure SMA Foundation, had submitted petitions regarding the issue. The case was presided over by a bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, where Solicitor General Tushar Mehta criticized Raina, asserting that the youth of India deserve more admirable role models.
Details of the Fine Imposed
The bench, which included Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, expressed skepticism about Raina's integrity, stating, "We have no reason to doubt that Samay Raina has taken the court for a ride. He is in brazen violation of statements/undertakings given before this court. The misconduct is sought to be compounded by stating that a compliance affidavit was filed yesterday; however, no affidavit has been filed." The court has granted Raina a two-week period to pay the fine and an additional 15 days to submit a proper compliance affidavit detailing his actions. The court warned that failure to comply would result in coercive measures.
Return of India's Got Latent Season 2
In spite of his legal challenges, Raina's show has made a significant return. 'India's Got Latent' Season 2 debuted on June 20, 2026, and is available for streaming on both Netflix and YouTube. The premiere episode featured Bollywood celebrities Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh, attracting a substantial audience.
