Supreme Court's Decision on Film Screening

The Supreme Court declined to conduct an immediate hearing on a petition requesting security for the screening of Kamal Haasan's film 'Thug Life' in Karnataka theaters, citing alleged threats.

Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan advised the Karnataka Theater Association to approach the Karnataka High Court instead.

A lawyer representing the petitioner highlighted that certain groups opposing the film's screening in Karnataka have issued open threats, claiming they would set theaters on fire.

Justice Mishra rejected the request for urgent hearing, suggesting, 'Install fire extinguishers.' He directed the petitioner to seek recourse in the High Court.

'Thug Life' was released in theaters across the country on June 5. The film faced delays in Karnataka due to controversy surrounding comments made by Haasan, marking his collaboration with filmmaker Mani Ratnam since the 1987 film 'Nayakan.' It has also been released in Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam.
