Sundar C Enters Politics Ahead of Tamil Nadu Elections
Sundar C's Political Aspirations
Renowned actor and filmmaker Sundar C has declared his intention to enter the political arena, aiming to represent the Madurai Central constituency in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for April 23. He recently addressed comments made by fellow actor Vijay regarding the political rivalry between two parties, expressing admiration for Vijay and refraining from any negative remarks.
Sundar C's Respect for Vijay
When questioned about Vijay's assertion that the real competition lies between TVK and DMK, Sundar C praised Vijay's kindness and emphasized their amicable relationship, noting that his wife shares a friendly rapport with Vijay, who affectionately refers to her as 'Akka'. He reiterated his intention to avoid criticizing Vijay or his political endeavors.
As he prepares for his political journey, Sundar C is officially contesting under the AIADMK banner, in alliance with Puthiya Neethi Katchi (PNK). He also addressed concerns about a fake social media account impersonating him, urging his supporters to rally behind him in this new chapter.
Actor Vijay has recently launched his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), on February 2, 2024, marking his formal entry into Tamil Nadu politics ahead of the 2026 elections. He is running independently with a focus on a secular agenda and has chosen the whistle symbol, opting not to align with major political coalitions. His upcoming film, Jana Nayagan, is expected to be his last project before fully committing to politics.
Upcoming Projects for Sundar C
On the cinematic front, Sundar C is set to direct and co-produce a sequel to the successful 2020 film Mookuthi Amman, with Nayanthara returning to her lead role. This sequel aims to maintain the comedic and devotional essence of its predecessor. Additionally, he is collaborating with Vishal and Tamannaah Bhatia on a project titled Purushan, produced by Benzz Media and presented by Kushboo Sundar, which tells the story of a seemingly gentle husband with a hidden violent side.
This film marks Sundar C's fourth collaboration with Vishal, following previous projects like Aambala and Madha Gaja Raja, and is anticipated to be a crowd-pleaser. Furthermore, he is working with director Dhorai VZ on a horror-thriller, which will be his third project together after Iruttu and Thalainagaram 2. Sundar C was also previously slated to work on Rajinikanth’s 2027 film, tentatively titled Thalaivar 173, but had to withdraw in November 2025 due to unforeseen circumstances. Their last successful collaboration was on Arunachalam in 1997.
