Drishyam 3: Mohanlal's Latest Film Faces Box Office Challenges After Strong Opening

The much-anticipated third installment of Mohanlal's acclaimed franchise, Drishyam 3, premiered in cinemas on May 21. The family-oriented drama initially saw impressive box office results over its opening weekend. However, the film's real challenge began on Monday, May 25, as it faced a significant decline in ticket sales due to the absence of a holiday. On its fifth day, the film struggled to reach double-digit earnings.
Box Office Performance on Day 5
As per preliminary figures from Sacnilk, Drishyam 3 earned approximately Rs 7.35 crore on its fifth day. The film, featuring Mohanlal in the lead role, experienced only 34.5% occupancy in theatres, a stark contrast to the 51.8% occupancy on Sunday. Over its first five days, the film has accumulated Rs 61.80 crore in India, with a total gross of Rs 71.74 crore. Interestingly, Drishyam 3 has outperformed expectations in international markets, grossing Rs 78.40 crore, leading to a worldwide total of Rs 150.14 crore.
On Monday, the film's earnings dropped by 46.90%, following a collection of Rs 13.85 crore on Sunday. Breaking down the earnings by language, the Kannada version made Rs 10 lakh, the Tamil version earned Rs 25 lakh, and the Telugu version brought in Rs 55 lakh, while the Malayalam version garnered Rs 6.45 crore. Mohanlal's dedicated fan base has undoubtedly contributed to the film's success, which has received a mixed-to-positive reception from both critics and audiences.

Directed by Jeethu Joseph, Drishyam 3 features a talented cast, including Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Siddique, Murali Gopy, Biju Menon, Asha Sharath, Veena Nandakumar, Santhi Mayadevi, Dinesh Prabhakar, and Irshad in significant roles. Additionally, a Hindi remake of Drishyam 3, starring Ajay Devgn, is set to release in theatres on October 2, 2025. Directed by Abhishek Pathak, the Hindi adaptation will feature Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, Tabu, Prakash Raj, Rajat Kapoor, and others, with the director indicating that it will differ slightly from the original Malayalam version.
