C V Shivashankar, Kannada cinema's veteran director passes away at 90

Veteran Kannada cinema actor CV Sivashankar has passed away. He celebrated his 90th birthday just three months ago, on March 23. He was a veteran film director, screenwriter, lyricist and multitasker in the film world. He died on June 27, 2023 due to cardiac arrest in Bengaluru.

CV Sivashankar passed away on Tuesday due to sudden health failure. He was healthy, and had no impending signs of illness. This was revealed by his son Venkat Bharadwaj. During the puja, the veteran suddenly collapsed and the family was shocked. Later it was found by the doctors that Sivashankar had suffered a cardiac arrest.
He is survived by his wife Radhamma and their two sons. His one son Venkat Bhardwaj is also in the film industry. He also has a professional relationship with his son. They have worked together in two of Venkat's films. A Day in the City, released in 2015, and Bablusha, released the following year, are the two films. He has been honored with the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award by the Kannada Government.
About the veteran
CV Sivashankar started his career in 1962. He worked as an actor and assistant director in the film Rathna Manjari, which starred Udayakumar, MP Shankar, Narasimharaju and Leelavati. In 1967, five years after his film debut, Sivashankar ventured into direction with the film Padavidhara, starring Udayakumar, Kalpana, T.N. Balakrishna and Narasimharaju were. After that, he directed one more film in 1968, Namma Uru. It was his second and last directorial film. And never turned back to the direction.
He was well known for writing lyrics for many memorable songs in Kannada. Bengaluru Nagara, Sirivantanadaru Kannada Nadale Merev and Anandada Tavaruru were among the many songs he wrote as a lyricist. His songs focused on Kannada culture and land, thus showing his passion and love for it. He has also produced many films in his illustrious and long film career. Indeed, his loss is a big one for the Kannada film industry, considering all the contributions he made to all fields of film.
