Support for CJP Grows Among South Indian Stars
A wave of support for the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is emerging from various South Indian celebrities as protests intensify. Numerous actors and filmmakers have expressed their concerns regarding the management of demonstrations in New Delhi. Following clashes at Jantar Mantar, several public figures have called for dialogue and shown solidarity with students and activist Sonam Wangchuk. They emphasized the need for peaceful protests, accountability, and the safeguarding of democratic rights. Their remarks come in light of demands for justice related to alleged exam irregularities and necessary educational reforms.
Aditi Rao Hydari and Revathy Speak Out
Actress Aditi Rao Hydari has joined the ranks of film personalities advocating for the students involved in the protests led by Sonam Wangchuk and the CJP initiative. On Instagram, she refrained from making a political statement, instead urging for compassion and dialogue. She stated, "Regardless of political beliefs, humanity should take precedence." Aditi further emphasized the importance of creating a safe environment rooted in respect and empathy for all students and those striving to be heard, advocating for constructive dialogue.
She added, "Real progress begins with listening to each other. Our students represent our future." Veteran actress Revathy also voiced her opinion on the protests through a powerful social media post. She condemned the force used against demonstrators, likening it to the violence seen during India's struggle for independence. She stated, "Protest is a legitimate means to express dissent - it was peaceful! Whatever the demands, they should be HEARD and DISCUSSED, not SILENCED with violence. The CHILDREN are expressing their concerns - LISTEN to them, ENGAGE with them, not BEAT them... alongside SONAM WANGCHUK and the STUDENTS of our nation."
Solidarity from Siddharth, Prakash Raj, and Pa Ranjith
Earlier, actor Prakash Raj visited Jantar Mantar to show his support for the youth-led protests. He shared a video from the location, stating, "The youth of our country are #justasking." Actor Siddharth also expressed his backing for the students, sharing a quote from Mark Twain that read, "Courage is not the absence of fear, but the mastery of it."
Filmmaker Pa Ranjith took to X to express his solidarity, stating, "In support of #SonamWangchuk, the #CockroachJantaParty, and every protester at #JantarMantar." He condemned the state's intervention in the peaceful protests, criticizing the use of force against demonstrators, the detention of supporters, and the decision to transfer activist Sonam Wangchuk to a hospital during his 21-day hunger strike, which he found deeply troubling. Reports indicate that clashes erupted when protesters attempted to breach barricades, resulting in the use of lathi charges and tear gas, with over 50 personnel and protesters reportedly injured.
