Actor Sonu Sood Leads Relief Efforts in Nepal
Mumbai: Actor Sonu Sood is currently in Kathmandu, delivering essential supplies to those impacted by the severe floods in Nepal. He has pledged that his foundation will persist in providing support in the upcoming months.
Accompanied by his Sood Charity Foundation team, Sood arrived in the Nepalese capital on Tuesday, bringing food and blankets for the victims of the floods that occurred on August 26, as reported by local media.
Sood expressed, "We are here to support all flood victims. Our goal is to stand by those in need and assist in restoring their lives."
The immediate relief efforts focus on distributing blankets and food, while his team is evaluating the specific needs of the affected communities.
He added, "We have gathered numerous blankets and food supplies, and we are continuously asking for their needs to send more from India."
The flash floods, caused by an ice and rock collapse near the Nepal-Tibet border, wreaked havoc on towns and villages in northern and central Nepal on August 26.
As of Tuesday, the death toll has reached 1,003, with approximately 4,000 individuals still unaccounted for and nearly 12,000 rescued, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority of Nepal.
Sood assured, "We will ensure that relief efforts continue not just this month but also in the months to come."
The 53-year-old actor had announced his intention to travel to Nepal on August 26, stating on social media, "Nepal, you are not alone. We are coming with food, shelter, and the strength to help you rebuild."
In a recent post, Sood shared images with Nepalese children, writing, "They have lost their homes, families, and childhoods... but together, we will help them find a new beginning. Nepal, you are not alone."
This is not the first time Sood has engaged in humanitarian efforts; he received widespread acclaim for facilitating transportation for thousands of stranded migrant workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
