Sonakshi Sinha Backs Deepika Padukone's Work Conditions Advocacy

Bollywood star Sonakshi Sinha has expressed her full support for Deepika Padukone's demand for an 8-hour workday on film sets. This discussion gained traction after reports surfaced that Deepika exited the upcoming film 'Spirit' due to disagreements over working conditions.

In a recent interview, Sonakshi shared her alignment with Deepika's views, stating, “I’m all for it,” when discussing the need for regulated work hours in the film industry.

She noted that she has observed fellow actors adhering to similar work schedules. “I’ve collaborated with actors who limit their work to eight hours. Therefore, I don’t see why female actors should be treated differently,” she remarked.

While Sonakshi supports the idea of an 8-hour workday, she acknowledged that flexibility may be necessary based on the specific demands of a project. “It also depends on the project’s needs. You can plan the schedule to fit those hours. There are various tasks that can be completed simultaneously,” she elaborated.

Having spent 15 years in the industry, she emphasized the importance of prioritizing health and personal time. “After 15 years in this field, I recognize the need for personal time outside of work,” she stated.

Sonakshi also highlighted how long working hours can impact actors' fitness routines. “If I’m cast in a role that requires me to be in peak physical condition, I need time for the gym. If I’m on set for 12 to 14 hours, that won’t be feasible,” she explained.

However, she clarified that she is not opposed to longer hours when necessary. “If the situation allows, I’m willing to work 12 or even 10 hours. But adjustments should be made when they are not essential,” she added.

The controversy erupted when Deepika Padukone reportedly left the film 'Spirit', directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Rumors suggested that her demands included an 8-hour workday, profit sharing, and a preference against delivering lines in Telugu, which reportedly did not sit well with the director.

Deepika's stance has sparked significant discussion within the industry, and Sonakshi's supportive comments have further fueled the ongoing conversation about improving working conditions in Bollywood.

Currently, Sonakshi Sinha is busy promoting her upcoming thriller 'Nikita Roy', featuring Paresh Rawal, Arjun Rampal, and Suhail Nayyar. The film is set to hit theaters on June 27, 2025.
