Singer Pepon Urges Global Support for Assam Flood Victims Amidst Crisis
A Call for Compassion: Pepon's Plea for Assam
In a heartfelt message, singer Pepon has reached out to individuals across India and beyond, asking for assistance for those impacted by the catastrophic floods in Assam. The state is currently facing one of its most severe flooding crises in recent memory, with the death toll rising to 68. In a video posted on X, Pepon shed light on the tragic situation in his home state, urging people not to ignore the plight of those affected. He expressed, "I just wanted to bring to notice what's happening in Assam right now," highlighting the unprecedented destruction caused by this year's floods.
Although Assam is no stranger to annual flooding, Pepon pointed out that the devastation this year has been particularly intense. He painted a grim picture, stating, "Villages are flooded. People are still homeless. Hundreds of people are missing. People have lost their lives. So many animals have died." His moving remarks highlighted the significant hardships faced by residents in various flood-affected districts, where numerous families have been rendered homeless and many have lost everything due to the rising waters.
Pepon continued to call for urgent assistance from both national and international communities, emphasizing the critical nature of the humanitarian crisis. He urged, "I request everyone in India and across the world to please look towards Assam. It's humanity; we all must come together and act quickly." As rescue teams and government agencies work tirelessly in the affected regions, thousands remain displaced and are currently living in relief camps.
Assam's Chief Minister Hima Biswas Sharma has announced that state ministers will be dispatched to the impacted areas to oversee rehabilitation efforts, particularly in the severely affected districts of Sivasagar, Jorhat, and Golaghat. Union Minister Sarbanand Sonowal described the flood situation as extremely serious, confirming that both the central and Assam governments are working together on rescue and relief initiatives. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely monitoring the developments, assuring the people of Assam that the central government will extend all possible support. Amid these ongoing efforts, Pepon's poignant message serves as a crucial reminder of the pressing need for assistance during this difficult time.
