Shriya Pilgaonkar Advocates for Sustainability at Conclave
Shriya Pilgaonkar's Perspective on Sustainability
Actress Shriya Pilgaonkar emphasizes that sustainability transcends mere trends or buzzwords. During her address at the Sustainability Conclave 2026, she articulated that sustainability has transformed into a crucial issue of "survivability." In an era where extravagant lifestyles often overshadow environmental concerns, she is actively striving to minimize her ecological footprint and cultivate a deeper understanding of sustainable practices. This commitment is closely linked to her experiences in the entertainment industry.
Insights from the Sustainability Conclave 2026
Before her rise in films and web series, Shriya participated in a documentary focused on stray cows in Rajasthan, which significantly broadened her awareness of environmental and social challenges. Her journey towards sustainability, however, began much earlier, rooted in her upbringing. Shriya attributes her environmental consciousness to her mother, who inspired her to embrace a sustainable lifestyle.
In a conversation with a media representative, Shriya expressed her belief that the term "sustainability" should be redefined as "survivability." She highlighted the urgency of addressing climate change and the current rainfall deficit. "For many, sustainability is just a trendy term. I prefer to avoid labels like sustainability enthusiast; I focus on taking meaningful actions instead. My mother deserves all the credit for introducing me to these values. We purchased a small plot in the Konkan region, which was once lush but lacked trees. After some research, we are now implementing the Miyawaki method to create a forest by planting indigenous species, which allows for quicker forest density," she explained.
Shriya continued, "We are exploring what we can achieve on a smaller scale. I observe many from our generation making conscious choices, even in home construction. These small efforts can lead to significant change. Often, the idea of change feels daunting, as we tend to think on a global scale. However, if each of us returns home and considers how we can contribute—whether on a film set or in our residences—hopefully, in a few years, we will cultivate mini forests on our properties."

Shriya believes that significant progress can be made by those genuinely passionate about climate issues. "Rather than seeking attention for our efforts, we can contribute meaningfully without claiming credit. For me, it's about enhancing my knowledge and understanding what I can do at my level," she stated. She also noted the resurgence of the farm-to-table movement, which emphasizes fresh produce reaching consumers directly. Shriya concluded by stressing the importance of self-education and accountability as the foundation for personal growth.
