Shekhar Suman Shares Heartwarming Story of Friendship with Shah Rukh Khan
A Touching Tale from Bollywood
Bollywood often feels like a close-knit family, and while some may argue otherwise due to the fierce competition, heartwarming stories occasionally emerge. Recently, Shekhar Suman recounted a memorable experience that highlights the depth of true friendship in the entertainment industry. He shared a touching moment involving Shah Rukh Khan, illustrating how their bond transcends professional ties.
Shah Rukh's Generous Gift to Shekhar Suman
Suman reminisced about an incident from the time Shah Rukh Khan was filming Chalte Chalte. The superstar reached out personally, asking for Suman's voice for a teaser. “He called me and said, ‘Hi, this is Shah Rukh.’ I responded, ‘Yes, Shah Rukh,’” Suman recounted during an interview, noting the friendly tone of their conversation.
Without hesitation, Suman agreed to provide his voice and completed the recording. However, he was taken aback when Shah Rukh later sent him a generous cheque as a thank-you gesture. Suman remarked, "He sent me a big cheque, but I insisted this was a friendly exchange, not about money." Despite his refusal, Shah Rukh persisted, ultimately gifting him a 'very expensive' watch, which Suman still treasures as a special keepsake. This story exemplifies why Shah Rukh Khan is so beloved in Bollywood.
Missed Opportunity in Devdas
In another discussion, Suman reflected on a significant career opportunity he missed. He was once offered the role of Chunni Babu in Devdas, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Unfortunately, due to his commitments to the popular television show Movers and Shakers, he had to decline the role, which was ultimately played by Shah Rukh Khan.
“At that time, I was deeply involved in Movers and Shakers, airing five times a week. As much as I wanted to take on the role, I couldn't,” he expressed, acknowledging a sense of regret over the missed opportunity. However, Suman maintains a positive outlook, stating, “Some you win, some you lose. You shouldn't dwell too much on regrets; it just wasn't meant to be.” Interestingly, he later had the chance to work with Bhansali on the series Heeramandi, which he feels compensated for the earlier missed opportunity.
