Shah Rukh Khan's Generosity Boosts Marathi Film Deool Band 2
Director Pravin Tarde Reflects on SRK's Support
Pravin Tarde, the director of Deool Band 2, recently recounted how Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan came to his aid during a challenging financial period. Despite being produced on a limited budget, the film emerged as one of the highest-grossing Marathi films ever. The production team faced difficulties in financing a Digital Cinema Package (DCP), but SRK’s Red Chillies stepped in to assist, completely waiving the Rs 42 lakh fee when asked for help. Following Tarde's acknowledgment of this generous act, the film reportedly faced a negative campaign.
Negative Campaign Following Praise for SRK
In an Instagram video, Tarde expressed his experiences traveling throughout Maharashtra, noting that people only began to take notice when he mentioned Shah Rukh Khan's name. He pointed out that there were attempts to hinder the film's success in the past, questioning the recent indirect opposition it faced. Tarde emphasized that the film achieved its current status without the backing of major industry figures, attributing its success to the genuine efforts of the team. He also quoted a line from Marathi poet Vinda Karandikar, highlighting the importance of recognizing those who contribute positively.
“Whether it’s Pitya (a character in the film) or Shah Rukh Khan, it’s essential to acknowledge and appreciate those who help you,” he concluded.
SRK's Impact on Deool Band 2's Release
For Shah Rukh Khan, the success of Deool Band 2 was more significant than the financial aspect. Tarde shared that SRK instructed his team, saying, "It's a Marathi film. Provide them with the DCP. We can handle the payments later. If it’s a good film, let them have the DCP." Without this crucial support, the film might not have reached theaters or made such a significant impact. The narrative revolves around a distressed rural farmer, and the film is projected to gross Rs 100 crore at the box office, marking a monumental achievement for Marathi cinema. Deool Band 2 was released in theaters across India on May 21, 2026, featuring notable performances from Mohan Joshi, Snehal Tarde, Mahesh Manjrekar, and others.
