Sam Neill, the celebrated actor known for his role in Jurassic Park, has passed away at the age of 78 in Australia. The New Zealand star, who also appeared in Peaky Blinders and numerous independent films, was recognized as one of the most adaptable actors of his time, often regarded as an "international leading man." Neill is best remembered for his portrayal of the esteemed paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park series, where he was the central character in the original 1993 film and its sequel, Jurassic Park III, released in 2001. He later reprised this iconic role in 2022's Jurassic World Dominion. The announcement of his death was made on social media, with his official Instagram account stating, "It is with immense sadness that the whānau of Sam Neill share the news of his passing on Monday, July 13, in Sydney, Australia. Surrounded by family, Sam departed with the dignity that characterized his entire life."



The post continued, "The loss was sudden and unexpected, but we are grateful that Sam remained cancer-free. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at St Vincent’s Private Hospital for their exceptional care." Before his iconic role in Jurassic Park, Sam Neill had already made a name for himself with diverse performances in horror, drama, and action films. He gained early fame as Damien Thorn in Omen III: The Final Conflict (1981) and starred in various films including Attack Force Z (1982), Evil Angels (A Cry in the Dark, 1988), Dead Calm (1989), Death in Brunswick (1990), The Hunt for Red October (1990), The Piano (1993), In the Mouth of Madness (1994), and Event Horizon (1997).
