Legal Issues Surrounding 'Kala Hiran'

Kala Hiran, a film inspired by Salman Khan’s notorious 1998 blackbuck poaching incident, is facing legal challenges. The actor, known for his role in Tiger Zinda Hai, has reportedly filed a petition with the Delhi High Court, requesting an immediate halt to the film's production, promotion, and release. Khan asserts that the movie infringes upon his personality and publicity rights. Reports indicate that he informed the Delhi High Court that the promotional materials for Kala Hiran prominently feature a lookalike of him, which is being exploited for commercial purposes. The initial poster of the film showcased an individual wearing a bracelet reminiscent of Salman’s.

Salman Khan's Petition to the Delhi High Court

As per a report from a news outlet, Salman’s legal action names Amit Jani, Jani Firefox Films, Akshay Pandey, and others. In his petition, Khan expressed concerns that Kala Hiran could negatively impact the ongoing legal proceedings related to the blackbuck poaching case, potentially causing irreparable damage to his reputation and public image. Furthermore, he has requested an injunction against the film's production, promotion, release, streaming, and distribution of any related promotional content. The film's first look was set to be unveiled today, and the Delhi High Court is expected to address the interim injunction request shortly.

Salman Khan's Legal Notice to the Film's Producers

Earlier in June, Salman issued a legal notice to Amit Jani of Jani Firefox Media Private Limited. The producer acknowledged the notice and accused the actor of intimidating those associated with the film. He stated, “The purpose of the notices is to intimidate people so that they succumb to his glamour. It's his habit to intimidate. It's my nature to not be intimidated. He thinks I'm dead. Tell him I'm not dead," as per his Facebook post. The notice was reportedly sent on April 24, 2026, and was directed to casting director Akshay Pandey.

Producer's Response to the Legal Notice

In response to the legal notice, producer Amit publicly criticized it. In a video statement, he claimed that within 36 hours of announcing Kala Hiran, he received over 1000 abusive messages, including threats to his life if he returned to Mumbai. He accused Salman’s fans of issuing these threats. Additionally, he mentioned receiving threats from the D-Company, although he could not confirm the source of those messages. Holding the legal notice, Jani remarked, “Everyone is asking me, media people, colleagues, friends, acquaintances, what is your answer to the legal notice from Salman Khan? This notice, what answer should I give?” He further stated, “I have given you your answer. Now we will deal with D Company. Send whoever you want to send.”

As of now, Salman’s legal team has not commented on the legal notice or the petition filed in the Delhi High Court.
