Saif Ali Khan Commemorates Father Tiger Pataudi at Winchester College
A Tribute to Tiger Pataudi
Recently, a special ceremony took place at Winchester College to honor the late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, affectionately known as Tiger Pataudi, father of Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan. The event featured the unveiling of a commemorative plaque at the college's historic cricket pavilion, Hunter Tent. Saif, an alumnus of the esteemed institution, participated in this tribute during Wykeham Day, an annual summer celebration that unites students, staff, families, and alumni to celebrate the college's rich traditions in sports, culture, and community that have thrived for over 600 years. This occasion served as a heartfelt homage to Tiger Pataudi’s enduring legacy and his profound connection with the college.
Saif Ali Khan Reflects on His Father's Legacy
During the event, Saif reminisced about his father's early cricketing experiences at Winchester and expressed his appreciation to the college for this significant recognition. He mentioned that returning to the college as a former student to honor his father was a privilege. Saif highlighted the pivotal role the college played in shaping his father's cricketing career, noting that his father often cherished the friendships, values, and experiences he gained there. "Our family feels immense pride and gratitude that Winchester College has chosen to honor him in this manner. We hope this plaque inspires future generations of students, just as Winchester inspired him," Saif remarked.
Sir Richard Stagg, the Warden of Winchester College, acknowledged Tiger Pataudi as one of cricket's most distinguished figures and a source of pride for the institution. He noted that Pataudi was a cricketing talent at the school, having broken a long-standing record for runs in a season set by Douglas Jardine in 1919. Stagg emphasized that Pataudi's legacy also underscores the enduring ties between the UK and India, along with their mutual passion for cricket.
