AICWA Raises Alarm Over Safety Violations

Mumbai: The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has voiced serious concerns regarding ongoing safety breaches on the set of the anticipated film Dhurandhar 2.

Directed by Aditya Dhar and featuring Ranveer Singh in the lead role, the film has attracted scrutiny from authorities due to consistent violations of safety protocols during production. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has even proposed blacklisting Dhar's production company, B62 Studios.

In a formal letter, AICWA expressed its discontent and criticized the production team for their negligence.

The letter stated, “The safety, dignity, and lives of film industry workers, technicians, and laborers must never be compromised. For years, AICWA has raised alarms about production houses disregarding essential safety standards, legal requirements, and basic human protections on set. Such negligence leads to tragic outcomes, with numerous workers suffering injuries or fatalities from fires, electric shocks, and unsafe set conditions. Incidents at Goregaon Filmcity and other studios, where lives were lost due to unsafe practices, serve as stark reminders of the risks faced by film workers.”

AICWA has consistently submitted complaints to the Chief Minister and the BMC Commissioner, urging for stringent enforcement of safety laws and legal repercussions for non-compliant production houses.

They further stated, “AICWA fully endorses the BMC's actions against B62 Studios. Such decisive measures are crucial, as no production house is above the law. Ignoring safety regulations endangers thousands of workers. In Mumbai, hundreds of shoots occur daily, yet many production houses fail to adhere to essential legal and safety protocols.”

“AICWA will persist in advocating for film industry workers and will not remain silent until comprehensive safety enforcement is mandated throughout the industry,” they concluded.
