Russell Brand's Legal Proceedings Delayed
The trial of actor and comedian Russell Brand regarding rape charges in the UK has been rescheduled to October 12. Initially set to commence on June 16 at Southwark Crown Court, the trial was postponed during a hearing on March 30. Justice Bennathan decided to delay the proceedings by four months to avoid conflicts with the summer holiday schedule. Brand, aged 50, is facing multiple allegations, including three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault, with accusations from six women spanning from 1999 to 2009. He has consistently denied all allegations against him.

The latest hearing formally consolidated all charges against him. The judge noted that starting the trial in mid-June would likely lead to insufficient time for proceedings, and jurors would be unavailable during the summer break. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for June 16 and 17, 2026. Brand, who was previously married to pop star Katy Perry, did not attend this hearing; his barrister Ian Winter KC represented him.
