Russell Brand's Rape Trial Postponed to October 2026

Russell Brand's rape trial in the UK has been postponed to October 12, 2026, due to difficulties in securing jurors during the summer holidays. Facing multiple charges, including three counts of rape, Brand has denied all allegations. The trial, originally set for June 16, is expected to last around two months. Additional allegations involving two more women were introduced earlier this year, and a pre-trial hearing is scheduled for June 16 and 17, 2026. Brand, a well-known comedian and actor, has had a successful career in both the UK and Hollywood.

Russell Brand's Legal Proceedings Delayed

The trial of actor and comedian Russell Brand regarding rape charges in the UK has been rescheduled to October 12. Initially set to commence on June 16 at Southwark Crown Court, the trial was postponed during a hearing on March 30. Justice Bennathan decided to delay the proceedings by four months to avoid conflicts with the summer holiday schedule. Brand, aged 50, is facing multiple allegations, including three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault, with accusations from six women spanning from 1999 to 2009. He has consistently denied all allegations against him.

Trial Rescheduled for October 2026

Justice Bennathan indicated that the trial's delay was necessary due to difficulties in securing jurors during the summer holidays. The initial trial was expected to last up to five weeks, but the new timeline suggests it may extend to approximately two months. During a January 2026 hearing, additional allegations involving two more women were introduced, and Brand was granted bail after appearing via video link from Florida. The latest hearing formally consolidated all charges against him. The judge noted that starting the trial in mid-June would likely lead to insufficient time for proceedings, and jurors would be unavailable during the summer break. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for June 16 and 17, 2026. Brand, who was previously married to pop star Katy Perry, did not attend this hearing; his barrister Ian Winter KC represented him. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges since being charged in April 2025.
