Mumbai: A special court has decided to extend the police remand of the primary suspect and six others involved in the shooting incident at filmmaker Rohit Shetty's residence until March 4. The court acknowledged that further investigation is necessary, particularly regarding the reconnaissance conducted at the crime scene.

The police requested an additional ten days of custody, emphasizing that they still need to recover certain weapons linked to the case. They also highlighted the need for more inquiries into the reconnaissance activities carried out by the accused.

The court was informed that new charges under the Arms Act have been added to the case.

The suspects, including the shooter Deepak Sharma, were apprehended on February 14 in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

They were presented before Special Judge Satyanarayan Navandar, who oversees cases under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), following the conclusion of their previous remand.

Advocate Dilip Shukla, representing the accused, contested the police's request for an extended custody period, arguing that a shorter duration would serve justice better.

After considering both sides, Judge Navandar determined that the police require adequate time to conduct a thorough investigation.

On February 1, at least five shots were fired at the first floor of Shetty's nine-story building located in Juhu, with one bullet hitting the glass of a gym within the premises.

To date, law enforcement has arrested 12 individuals in connection with the case, with five currently in judicial custody.

Shubham Lonkar, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has claimed responsibility for the shooting via a social media post. Lonkar is also a wanted suspect in the murder case of NCP leader Baba Siddique and in the shooting incident at Bollywood actor Salman Khan's home in Bandra.
