Raja Shivaji: The Most Expensive Marathi Film

Riteish Deshmukh is set to make waves with his upcoming historical drama, Raja Shivaji, which is being hailed as the priciest Marathi film to date, boasting a budget of Rs 100 crore. As the release date approaches, Sai Tamhankar has shared her thoughts on the growth of Marathi cinema, commending Riteish for his ambitious project centered around Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. In a recent interview with Zoom, the actress from Mimi discussed the significance of budgets in filmmaking, emphasizing that even modestly produced films can achieve box office success. She believes that Raja Shivaji could pave the way for future Marathi films.

Sai Tamhankar Discusses Raja Shivaji's Impact

In her conversation with Zoom, Sai remarked, “I observe that low and mid-budget Hindi films have evolved significantly. There are no longer strict formulas for success. A film like Kill exemplifies how a small-budget project featuring new talent can still thrive. If the audience enjoys a film, they will watch it, irrespective of the cast, language, or location. The landscape has transformed.” She expressed pride in Riteish's achievements with Raja Shivaji, stating, “I am incredibly proud of Riteish Deshmukh. He consistently pushes boundaries and succeeds. If Raja Shivaji is indeed the most expensive Marathi film, it signifies progress. It shows that we can create grand films, and it’s uplifting for our industry. Such advancements fill us with positivity, hope, and pride.”

Sai Tamhankar Reflects on Matka King's Success

On the work front, Sai's latest venture, Matka King, is currently available on Prime Video, where she portrays Barkha in the direction of Nagraj Manjule. She stars alongside Vijay Varma, who plays her husband. Discussing the success of Matka King, Sai mentioned that after completing a project, she prefers not to dwell on its performance. “We put in a lot of effort, and we hope it resonates with the audience. That’s the only sentiment we hold. When it receives appreciation and love, it feels rewarding, as if our hard work has borne fruit.” Following Matka King, Sai has several exciting Marathi projects in the pipeline, including Tumbadchi Manjula and Bol Bol Rani, while she continues to engage Hindi audiences. Matka King also features Kritika Kamra, Siddharth Jadhav, Bhupendra Jadawat, and Gulshan Grover, and is created and written by Abhay Koranne.
