Controversy Surrounds 'Raja Shivaji'

Riteish Deshmukh's upcoming movie, Raja Shivaji, has sparked criticism from certain quarters after BJP member Suresh Nakhua raised concerns regarding a scene featuring the 'Wagh Nakh' in the trailer. According to historical accounts, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj concealed the 'Wagh Nakh' in his attire during a meeting with Afzal Khan at Pratapgad in Satara, using it to defend himself against the Mughal leader's attack. The trailer depicts Shivaji Maharaj holding the weapon, which has drawn significant attention as it symbolizes the Maratha king's secret armament. Nakhua expressed his discontent, alleging that Riteish distorted and disrespected the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Riteish Deshmukh Responds to Criticism

In his remarks, Suresh Nakhua pointed out that the portrayal of Riteish as the Maratha king openly brandishing the Wagh Nakh contradicts historical texts, which state that the weapon was hidden until after Afzal's attack. Nakhua tweeted, “WHY IS @RITEISHD MANIPULATING & INSULTING CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ'S & MAHARASHTRA'S HISTORY, LEGACY & PRIDE ???” (sic)

In response, Riteish Deshmukh courteously invited Nakhua to watch the film on May 1, suggesting that the film would provide clarity on the matter. He stated, “Respected Sir, pls do watch the film on 1st May.. the answer to your question is there in the movie. I hope you enjoy the film with your friends and family. Jai Shivrai.” (sic)

Despite Riteish's explanation, Nakhua continued to criticize him, claiming that the actor's comments were merely a marketing tactic. He remarked, “So the truth is ‘inside the film’? 'Watch the film for answers' is acceptable for fiction, not history. When portraying Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the trailer should provide answers, not raise questions. Interesting strategy: Market Doubt, Sell Clarification.” (sic)

The exchange on X has gained traction on social media, with various users sharing their opinions. As for the trailer of Raja Shivaji, it has generally received favorable feedback, particularly for its music composed by Ajay-Atul.
