Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew Release Update

Fans eager to see Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew on the big screen will need to exercise some patience, as the film directed by Greta Gerwig is now set to debut globally on February 12, 2027. Netflix will host its premiere on April 2, 2027, with IMAX sneak previews beginning two days earlier on February 10, 2027. With this shift, the question arises: will Avengers: Doomsday take advantage of the available IMAX screens? The Marvel film is currently slated for a December 18, 2026 release, coinciding with Dune: Part Three, which has already secured all IMAX venues in the US for its initial three weeks.

Narnia Delayed to 2027: Will Doomsday Seize the Moment?

With Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew now pushed to 2027, it will enjoy a notable 45-day theatrical release window, a rarity for a Netflix production. This film marks the first adaptation of the C.S. Lewis book and serves as the origin story for the Narnia series.

Earlier this year, Disney, the parent company of Marvel, announced Infinity Vision, a new premium large format (PLF) certification aimed at attracting audiences to see Avengers: Doomsday. Meanwhile, Dune: Part Three has already claimed all IMAX screens in the US. If Doomsday maintains its release date, it may face challenges, but with Narnia vacating IMAX screens after Thanksgiving, Doomsday could potentially shift its schedule to capture those screens.

Insights on Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew

The original C.S. Lewis book was published on May 2, 1955, and serves as a precursor to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which was released in 1950. The Narnia series consists of seven books, collectively selling over 120 million copies worldwide in more than 60 languages. The film features newcomers David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell, alongside a talented cast including Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Ciarán Hinds, Denise Gough, Susan Wokoma, Daniel Craig, and Meryl Streep.

Gerwig is not only directing but also producing Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew alongside Mark Gordon, Amy Pascal, and Vincent Sieber-Smith. Executive producers include Patricia Whitcher, Douglas Gresham, and Melvin Adams from the C.S. Lewis Estate. The film's score will be composed by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, with music supervision by George Drakoulias. Gerwig shared that her love for the book began in childhood, and she considers it a "honor of a lifetime" to bring this beloved story to life.
