Mumbai, April 29: The highly anticipated sequel, 'Tumbbad 2', has officially set its release date for December 3, 2027. The announcement was made via the film's Instagram account, accompanied by a striking poster.
The post included a caption that read, “A sinful past, an ominous future. The hunger rises, the legacy of greed continues… Mark your calendars #Tumbbad2 arrives on 3. 12. 2027.”
This announcement comes on the heels of the successful re-release of the original 'Tumbbad' in 2024, which reignited interest and performed well at the box office.
Producer and actor Sohum Shah expressed his excitement about the sequel, stating, “‘Tumbbad’ holds a special place in my heart, and with ‘Tumbbad 2’, we aim to expand that universe in a more profound and expansive manner. We are enhancing the mythology and atmosphere that resonated with audiences while introducing new dimensions to the narrative. It will maintain its essence but also present a fresh unfolding of the story.”
With the first film, Sohum Shah carved out a unique niche for folklore horror in Indian cinema, and its popularity has only increased over time. The team behind 'Tumbbad 2' is eager to build upon this foundation, broadening the story and scale while preserving the original's distinctive tone.
Director Adesh Prasad shared his thoughts, saying, “Continuing this story has been both thrilling and challenging, particularly given the strong identity of the first film. Our goal has been to keep that spirit intact while advancing the narrative and visual experience. We want to create something that feels connected to the original yet offers audiences a new and immersive journey.”
'Tumbbad 2' is helmed by Adesh Prasad and produced by Sohum Shah under Sohum Shah Films, in collaboration with Pen Studios. The film will be distributed by Pen Marudhar.
