Ranveer Singh Faces Backlash Over Comments on Rishab Shetty's Performance
Controversy Surrounding Ranveer Singh's Remarks
Ranveer Singh has landed in hot water after making comments that were perceived as disrespectful towards a deity while praising Rishab Shetty's role in Kantara: Chapter 1. Following these remarks, a complaint was lodged against the actor, claiming that his words offended religious sentiments. Various activists and religious organizations have voiced their discontent, asserting that Ranveer's statements were inappropriate. In light of the situation, his legal team indicated that he would issue a formal apology and visit Chamundi Hills to seek forgiveness. However, the complainant's attorney has now disclosed that the latest affidavit submitted lacks any expression of regret.
Latest Developments in the Kantara Controversy
The complainant's lawyer has pointed out that the recent affidavit presented to the court does not convey any remorse. Consequently, the court has decided to postpone the case for additional proceedings. After the hearing, the complainant's representative, Prashanth, informed the media that they had initially agreed to the defense's suggestion of an apology and a visit to Chamundi Hills. However, he noted, "The new affidavit does not include an apology. It states that when Ranveer praised Rishab Shetty, the audience applauded. When someone speaks in a closed setting, people typically clap—are they expected to throw stones instead? This does not constitute an apology."
Prashanth further elaborated that the affidavit implies that Ranveer's actions were justified. He emphasized that the court anticipated a straightforward apology. Expressing disappointment, he stated that the affidavit should have reflected remorse. He believes the document is inadequate and has requested more time for Ranveer to submit a proper affidavit. He also warned that if a satisfactory apology is not forthcoming, they would seek to initiate trial proceedings. "We will not withdraw this case," Prashanth asserted.
Ranveer Singh's Previous Apology
In response to the backlash following his comments at IFFI 2025, Ranveer Singh took to social media to apologize. He shared a note on his Instagram stories, clarifying that his intention was to celebrate Rishab's remarkable performance in Kantara: Chapter 1. He acknowledged the effort required to deliver such a scene as Rishab did and expressed his deep admiration for it. "If I've hurt anyone's sentiments, I sincerely apologize," he stated. On the professional front, Ranveer was recently seen in Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar 2, where he portrayed the character Hamza Ali Mazari/Jaskirat Singh Rangi. The film has emerged as a significant box office success.
