Ranbir Kapoor's First Look in Ramayana

Ranbir Kapoor's debut appearance as Lord Rama in the upcoming film Ramayana is generating significant buzz among audiences. Fans are expressing their admiration for his remarkable transformation in this Hindu mythological epic. However, many are also reminiscing about the original cast from Ramanand Sagar's classic Ramayan. Sunil Lahri, who portrayed Lakshman in the iconic Doordarshan series aired from 1987 to 1988, shared his thoughts on Ranbir's interpretation of Rama. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film features Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman, among others.

Original Cast of Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan

Ramanand Sagar's television adaptation featured Arun Govil as Sriram, Deepika Chikhalia as Sita, Dara Singh as Hanuman, and Arvind Trivedi as Ravana. In a recent interview, Sunil Lahri mentioned that while the teaser offers only a brief glimpse and shouldn't be viewed as a complete representation of the film, he did find certain aspects that "irked" him.

Sunil Lahri's Perspective on Ranbir's Portrayal

Lahri expressed that while Ranbir appeared "okay," he felt he lacked the "innocence" essential for the role, a quality embodied by Arun Govil in the original series. "However, I believe he will bring depth to the character through his acting," Lahri remarked. Opinions are divided on whether Ranbir can effectively portray Lord Rama, especially following his roles in intense films like Animal and Brahmastra. Lahri concurred, stating that Ranbir seems "a little harsh" and might be better suited for the roles of Bharat or Lakshman. He suggested that a fresh face would be ideal for the role of Rama, emphasizing that an actor without prior controversies would be a perfect fit.
