Ranbir Kapoor Unveils Stunning First Look as Lord Rama in Epic 'Ramayana'

A Glimpse into the World of 'Ramayana'

Mumbai: The highly anticipated first look of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama was revealed on Thursday, marking a significant milestone for producer Namit Malhotra's ambitious project, Ramayana, which is set to be a landmark in Indian cinema.

On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, the production team released a captivating teaser lasting two minutes and thirty-eight seconds, showcasing the majestic world of Lord Rama, featuring grand palaces, lush forests, and intense battle scenes. Kapoor appears regal in royal attire embellished with intricate gold jewelry, embodying the essence of the king and warrior of Ayodhya.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, renowned for his work on Dangal and Chhichhore, this film has been a labor of love for seven years.

Tiwari expressed his emotions at a promotional event, stating, "This moment has taken me seven years to reach. Filmmaking can be a solitary and uncertain journey. Throughout these years, I envisioned how audiences would react to this moment. Seeing your response today makes every moment worthwhile. Many dedicated individuals contributed to this film, and we hope to receive your love."

The cast also includes KGF star Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi portraying Goddess Sita, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lord Lakshman.

Ramayana is produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios and DNEG, in collaboration with Yash's Monster Mind Creations.

This two-part live-action adaptation draws from one of the most cherished epics in Indian mythology, leveraging the expertise of DNEG, a leading visual effects studio with eight Academy Awards for films like Inception, Interstellar, Dune, and Dune: Part Two.

Malhotra, CEO of DNEG, described the moment as "special," sharing, "Creating this film has been a heartfelt endeavor. As we prepare to share it, there's a sense of hesitation. Thanks to Nitesh and the entire team for their hard work in bringing this passion project to life. I take pride in what we've created and hope you all enjoy it. Remember, you don't choose Ramayana; it chooses you."

Ranbir Kapoor reflected on his experience, stating, "I don’t see myself as representing Rama; rather, I aim to learn from him. His simplicity and purity are rare, and understanding and embodying those qualities has been a humbling journey for me."

The first installment of Ramayana is scheduled for a worldwide release in IMAX during Diwali 2026, with the second part following in Diwali 2027.

The film's production team includes acclaimed international talents, such as Oscar-winning composers Hans Zimmer and A R Rahman, who are collaborating on the film's score.

Action sequences are choreographed by Hollywood stunt experts Terry Notary and Guy Norris, while the visual aesthetics are crafted by production designers Ravi Bansal, known for Dune: Part Two, and Ramsey Avery, recognized for his work on Captain America.
