Rajkummar Rao Talks About His Role as Sourav Ganguly

During the Filmfare Awards Marathi 2025, actor Rajkummar Rao expressed both excitement and anxiety regarding his portrayal of cricket icon Sourav Ganguly in an upcoming biopic. In an exclusive conversation with a media outlet, he described the role as a significant responsibility, stating he feels 'very excited' and 'relieved' that Ganguly himself has endorsed him for the part.

Rao shared, 'It’s a huge relief that dada believes I am the right choice to depict his life on screen. It’s a big responsibility. I’m thrilled, a bit nervous, but I believe it will be an enjoyable experience.'

In a previous discussion with another media channel, Sourav Ganguly confirmed Rao's casting, saying, 'I believe the right person is taking on this role... I will support him in every way possible. Rajkummar has been finalized for the film, and I don’t think anyone else could portray me better.'

In addition to this project, Rajkummar is also gaining attention for his action-thriller film Maalik, which premiered on July 11. Directed by Pulkit, the movie features Prosenjit Chatterjee and Manushi Chhillar alongside Rao in key roles.

Maalik showcases Rajkummar in a gritty, high-energy role set in Allahabad in 1988, where he plays a clever, ruthless gangster navigating the dark underworld.

Although the film debuted with moderate anticipation, audience feedback has been mixed.
