R Madhavan's latest biographical film, "GDN," made its theatrical debut on August 7, but it encountered fierce competition from Lokesh Kanagaraj's "DC," which also premiered on the same day. This rivalry has led to a slow start for "GDN" at the box office. Although there was a slight uptick in ticket sales over the weekend, early numbers indicate that the film may struggle to sustain its performance in the coming weeks.

Upon its release, "GDN" managed to earn a net of 0.53 crore in its opening day at the domestic box office. Released in both Tamil and Telugu, the film saw a notable increase in ticket sales on its second day, Saturday, with a 75% rise to 0.93 crore. The positive trend continued into Sunday, with the film collecting 1.23 crore, reflecting a 32% increase from Saturday's figures. However, the total earnings after three days remain disappointing at just 2.69 crore.

In contrast, "DC" has garnered favorable reviews, allowing it to dominate the box office with over 20 crores in earnings during its opening weekend. This difference in audience reception has left "GDN" struggling to gain traction in a competitive environment.

Unless "GDN" can create a buzz through positive word-of-mouth in the upcoming days, it seems likely to have a lackluster box office run. This is particularly troubling for Madhavan, as this is the second consecutive biographical Tamil film to underperform, following the disappointing results of "Rocketry: The Nambi Effect."
