Hyderabad, May 5: The Telugu Film Directors Association (TFDA) has awarded the esteemed Dasari National Award 2026 to renowned filmmaker R. Balki, recognizing his impactful contributions to Indian cinema.

Additionally, the TFDA honored young director Ram Jagadeesh with the Dasari Debut Director Award for his critically acclaimed film 'Court', which has become a superhit.

These awards, named after the legendary Dasari Narayana Rao, aim to celebrate both established and emerging directors, highlighting the innovation and dedication that Rao exemplified throughout his illustrious career.

The awards ceremony coincided with the birth anniversary of Dasari Narayana Rao, a pivotal figure in Indian cinema, and is also celebrated as 'Directors Day'.

Directors Day serves as an annual tribute to the creative vision and cultural influence of directors, acknowledging their essential role in the film industry. This year's event saw participation from numerous prominent figures within the Indian film community, including members from the Tamil and Kannada Directors’ Associations and the Cinematographers’ Association.

During the event, R. Balki expressed his gratitude for being part of this significant occasion, emphasizing the importance of honoring a figure like Dasari Narayana Rao.

He remarked on the rise of Telugu cinema as a major force in Indian filmmaking, attributing this success to the audience's passionate engagement with films. Balki also praised the distinguished directors present, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the industry.

Actor Mohan Babu, who also spoke at the event, shared his personal and professional connection with Dasari Narayana Rao, noting the profound impact his mentor had on his life and career.
