Punjab Kings Complete Intensive Fitness Camp Ahead of IPL Season
Punjab Kings Concludes Fitness Camp in Bengaluru
The Punjab Kings recently wrapped up a rigorous four-day off-season fitness camp in Bengaluru, held in partnership with Stance Health from September 14 to 17. This camp aimed to prepare players both physically and mentally for the upcoming domestic season and the next Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign. Notable franchise players such as Shashank Singh, Priyansh Arya, Pyla Avinash, and Vishal Nishad participated in this initiative.
Continuing the Preparation Cycle
This fitness camp follows a skill-based training session that took place at the team's base in New Chandigarh from August 11 to 15. The franchise plans to organize additional specialized camps across the country in the upcoming months, ensuring a continuous preparation cycle leading up to the next IPL season. The Bengaluru camp focused on comprehensive athletic readiness, incorporating customized strength and conditioning routines, targeted mobility exercises, structured nutrition plans, and advanced recovery techniques. The emphasis was on helping players set physical benchmarks, manage their workloads, and prevent injuries, rather than solely honing match skills.
Year-Round Commitment to Excellence
Shashank Singh highlighted the necessity of year-round dedication for competing at elite levels. He stated, "This is the first fitness camp of the year. Many think the IPL is just a three-month tournament, but it requires a full 12-month commitment for players at this level. Competing in one of the world's top leagues demands hard work. This camp is entirely focused on fitness, diet, and training, ensuring we are well-prepared ahead of the season."
Scientific Approach to Conditioning and Recovery
Priyansh Arya emphasized the importance of scientific conditioning, noting that the specialized facilities and targeted programs at Stance Health significantly enhance player recovery. He remarked, "As the season approaches, our goal is to maximize quality training and reach peak physical condition. The facilities here, particularly the dedicated physiotherapy support and strength and conditioning programs, are tailored to our individual needs. In modern cricket, quick and effective recovery is crucial for success over a long season."
Structured Routines and Team Cohesion
The camp's schedule effectively balanced high-intensity physical training with structured recovery and team bonding activities. Daily routines began with morning mobility and gym sessions, followed by conditioning drills in the afternoon, and concluded with pool and therapeutic recovery sessions in the evening. Shashank Singh shared, "We start our mornings with mobility and gym work, have a team lunch, and then move into conditioning in the evening, finishing with recovery sessions. This routine allows us quality time together, fostering growth both individually and as a team. Building strong relationships off the field is just as important as our on-field performance."
Ongoing Support from the Franchise
Arya praised the franchise's commitment to providing continuous support throughout the year. He stated, "While the IPL is played over three months, Punjab Kings monitors our progress and supports us for the entire nine months of the off-season. Whether we need to train in Mumbai, Bengaluru, or attend camps in Chandigarh, the franchise organizes everything promptly. This level of support instills immense confidence in players."
A Supportive Culture Enhances Player Loyalty
Reflecting on his experience with the franchise, Shashank credited the supportive culture for fostering long-term player loyalty and development. He expressed, "Punjab Kings has completely transformed my career. The franchise's backing during tough times is rare, and I am incredibly grateful. The management, players, and owners treat us like family, which inspires us to give our all on the field."
Looking Ahead
As the domestic calendar approaches, players will return to their respective state teams before regrouping for the next phase of franchise preparations.
