The prestigious Padma Awards 2026 took place on the evening of May 25 at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards to 131 recipients during a ceremony attended by notable figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Among the honorees was renowned Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, who received the esteemed Padma Shri award. Following the announcement, Prosenjit shared a heartfelt video expressing his gratitude for receiving India's fourth highest civilian honor.

Prosenjit was awarded the Padma Shri for his significant contributions to Indian cinema, especially in Bengali films. He attended the ceremony dressed in a traditional golden kurta. The actor was recognized alongside other distinguished personalities from various fields, including art, education, and sports. Over his four-decade career, Prosenjit has appeared in more than 200 films, primarily in Bengali cinema, while also taking roles in a few Hindi films.

In his remarks, Prosenjit expressed deep gratitude to the Indian government for the Padma Shri award. He acknowledged the support of his colleagues, including producers, directors, and co-stars, throughout his 40-year journey in the industry. He emphasized that this honor is not solely his but belongs to everyone who has contributed to his success. Receiving the award from the President is a remarkable milestone for him, he noted.

In addition to Prosenjit Chatterjee, other celebrities such as Mammootty, Alka Yagnik, and Arvind Vaidya were also honored at the ceremony. The event paid tribute to the late Dharmendra, with his wife, actress Hema Malini, accepting the Padma Vibhushan award on his behalf. Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2025, in Mumbai. Prosenjit continues to be active in both Hindi and Bengali films, with his latest appearance in the film Vjaynagar’er Hirey, directed by Chandrasish Ray, featuring Aryann Bhowmik in the lead role. He has also starred in films like Shanghai, Traffic, and Maalik, as well as web series such as Jubilee and Khakee: The Bengal Chapter.
