Streaming Launch on Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video announced on Instagram, "The mission comes home. #ProjectHailMary begins streaming on Prime Video this Friday." The film, adapted by Drew Goddard, who previously penned the screenplay for Weir's The Martian, follows Ryland Grace as he awakens on an interstellar ship with no recollection of how he arrived. As he uncovers the truth about his situation and the mission to save humanity, he makes a groundbreaking discovery that alters his outlook.

Sandra Hüller portrays Eva Stratt, the leader of the international task force for Project Hail Mary, while Lionel Boyce, known for his role in The Bear, plays Ryland's companion Carl, a security guard. The film's production team includes Amy Pascal, Ryan Gosling, Lord, Miller, Weir, Rachel O’Connor, and Aditya Sood. Following its impressive box office performance, which grossed approximately $683.5 million globally, Amazon MGM Studios is gearing up for a significant awards campaign, as the film stands as the fourth highest-grossing film of 2026.

Release Date Adjustments to Avoid Competition

In India, the release of this sci-fi film was postponed by a week to prevent a clash with Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar: The Revenge. When asked about the delay, directors Lord and Miller expressed their willingness to accommodate the Bollywood film, stating, "We’ve got a sequel to a very popular Bollywood film [Dhurandhar 2] coming out on that date. I heard about it. And I am happy." They emphasized that "a rising tide lifts all boats," highlighting the importance of supporting global film industries.
