A Career Milestone for Priyanka Chopra

New Delhi: Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently reminisced about her role in the 2009 film 'Kaminey', which she credits as a pivotal moment in her acting career.

On Monday, she took to Instagram to share a nostalgic post featuring a scene from the film.

The movie, which also starred Shahid Kapoor in a dual role, was released on August 14, 2009, and depicted the intense rivalry between twin brothers Charlie and Guddu, both portrayed by Kapoor. Chopra played the character Sweety Bhope.

The 43-year-old actress recalled that she was in Miami filming 'Dostana' when she received a call from director Vishal Bhardwaj.

Chopra expressed her long-standing desire to work with Bhardwaj, although she initially doubted he would consider her due to her 'commercial' image. Following their conversation, Bhardwaj traveled to Miami to meet her.

In her post, she shared, 'While filming for Dostana in Miami, I noticed a missed call from Vishal Bhardwaj. I had always wanted to collaborate with him but thought he wouldn’t choose me because of my commercial image. He expressed his wish to meet, and he did come to Miami.'

The actress mentioned that Bhardwaj assured her he would create something remarkable for her, despite her character having only eight scenes. 'He told me the story, and I pointed out that my role had about eight scenes. He replied, 'With our collaboration, it will be much more. Trust me.' I believed him... I was eager to work with him,' she added.

'Kaminey' turned out to be a box office success, grossing over Rs 710 million.

Chopra later worked with Bhardwaj again in the 2011 film '7 Khoon Maaf', which is inspired by Ruskin Bond's short story 'Susanna's Seven Husbands.'

'#Kaminey remains a turning point in my career. I learned so much from the master @vishalrbhardwaj about research, preparation, and fully embracing my role. @shahidkapoor was phenomenal in his dual role... Those were the days. 16 years ago! I wanted to share this experience,' she concluded.

The film also featured notable performances by Amole Gupte, Shivkumar Subramaniam, and Chandan Roy Sanyal.
