Malti Marie's Inspiring Story
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas' daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, is a symbol of resilience. Born prematurely at just 27 weeks, she spent over 100 days in an incubator. The couple welcomed her via surrogacy, announcing her arrival on January 15, 2022. After a lengthy stay in the NICU, Malti finally came home, and her parents have openly discussed her courageous journey from birth to health. In a recent interview, Priyanka reflected on the emotional moment she first laid eyes on her daughter.
Announcement Under Pressure

During a podcast with Jay Shetty, Priyanka shared that she and Nick felt compelled to announce Malti's birth after the media caught wind of it through an anonymous tip. She recounted how only one person was permitted in the NICU with the newborn, and it was during this time that Malti made her first sound. Due to her premature birth, she appeared purple, and her first cry resembled that of a kitten. Although the couple faced this challenging period with strength, they had family support. Priyanka mentioned that they were not ready to share the news but had to do so due to external pressure.

The following three months were critical for Malti's health. Priyanka and Nick dedicated themselves to being by her side in the hospital daily. Priyanka became emotional while recalling how Nick would serenade their daughter with his guitar, while she played soothing mantras like the Mahamrityunjay Mantra and Gayatri Mantra on her iPod. “She was deeply wanted and cherished. Her journey to this world was incredibly tough,” Priyanka expressed with tears in her eyes.

Now four years old, Malti proudly identifies as an Indian princess when dressed in traditional attire, such as ghagras, complete with bindis and bangles. Priyanka shared this delightful detail during her appearance on the first episode of season 4 of The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show. When asked about raising her daughter in the U.S. while instilling Indian traditions, Priyanka affirmed that she has made every effort to immerse Malti in her cultural heritage. The couple celebrated a multi-cultural wedding in Rajasthan in 2018, featuring both a Christian ceremony and a traditional Hindu wedding.
