About Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike

Sonam Wangchuk initiated an indefinite hunger strike on June 28, 2026, in support of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), a youth-led initiative protesting against repeated exam paper leaks, including the NEET controversy, and the rising unemployment rates. He has stated that he will only conclude his fast if the government acknowledges responsibility for the leaks, and if Members of Parliament commit to addressing the issue during the Monsoon Session. After over 20 days without food, Wangchuk reportedly lost more than 9 kilograms and experienced severe dehydration and muscle breakdown. On July 18, the Delhi Police, following court orders, transferred the 59-year-old activist from the Jantar Mantar protest site to Safdarjung Hospital for medical supervision, despite his objections. This action also interrupted the CJP's planned "Sansad Chalo" march, with authorities citing health concerns, while supporters argued it infringed upon the right to peaceful protest.
