Potential Sequel to Chhaava in Development Focused on Shahu Maharaj
Chhaava Sequel in the Works?
There are indications that a sequel to the film Chhaava, featuring Vicky Kaushal and helmed by Laxman Utekar, may be in the pipeline. Recent reports suggest that discussions are underway between Vicky and Laxman regarding a follow-up project that will center around Shahu Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. In the original film, Vicky portrayed Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Although no official confirmation has been made, sources indicate that the project is in its early planning stages, with both the actor and director eager to proceed.
Is Chhaava 2 On The Horizon?
As per reports from ETimes, the anticipated sequel will delve into the life of Shahu Maharaj and is projected to commence production next year or by early 2028. Vicky Kaushal has shown interest in this collaboration, although a formal announcement is still pending.
However, there is a timeline to consider. Currently, Laxman Utekar is busy with his upcoming film Eetha, which stars Shraddha Kapoor. He is expected to focus on the Chhaava sequel only after wrapping up this project. Meanwhile, Vicky is engaged in Love & War, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. Following this, he is also slated to work on Mahavatar, directed by Amar Kaushik, known for Stree and Stree 2. Given these commitments, Chhaava 2 is more of a future prospect than an immediate venture.
Chhaava's Box Office Success
The financial triumph of Chhaava is a significant factor driving the consideration for a sequel. Released on February 14, 2025, the film depicted the life of Sambhaji, the second ruler of the Maratha Empire, and grossed between Rs 797 crore and Rs 809 crore globally. Vicky Kaushal starred as Sambhaji Maharaj, with Akshaye Khanna portraying Aurangzeb and Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale. Produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, Chhaava marked the studio's inaugural foray into the historical epic genre.
