She is an active member of the Women In Cinema Collective, an organization established in response to the Kerala Actress Abduction Case involving Malayalam actor Dileep. In a recent interview with a media outlet, Parvathy revealed that her advocacy for women's safety in the industry has led to her being sidelined from major projects. She expressed her disapproval of those who view her efforts as problematic.
Parvathy Thiruvothu Reflects on Industry Reactions
During a heartfelt discussion, Parvathy shared her experiences regarding the backlash she faced from the Malayalam film community after standing up for sexual harassment victims. She disclosed that she received threats of violence, including rape and death threats, but found solace in the unwavering support of her family and friends. Parvathy stated, “My parents, my brother, and my friends created a protective circle around me during that challenging time. This support was crucial when I spoke out against injustice. Many women joined the Women In Cinema Collective, some of whom were unfamiliar with receiving love and empathy. It made me realize that not everyone has the same support system.”
When discussing her exclusion from significant projects, Parvathy remarked, “My advocacy has led to the loss of several major opportunities. Perhaps those projects were not meant for me.” The actress, known for her role in Bangalore Days, emphasized that she evaluates individuals who find her work controversial. She expressed no regrets about her decisions, stating, “I prefer not to collaborate with those who view my work as problematic. They exploit their privilege to keep others suppressed, and I will continue to hold them accountable.”
