Paris Jackson Takes Legal Action Against Father's Estate: What’s at Stake?

Paris Jackson has taken a significant legal step by filing a petition against the executors of her father Michael Jackson's estate, seeking $600 million for the family trust. She alleges that the estate has failed to properly fund the trust for her and her siblings, Prince and Bigi, and claims that executor John Branca has too much control over asset distribution. The estate counters these allegations, stating that they are unable to fully fund the trusts due to ongoing legal issues with the IRS. A court hearing is scheduled for December, as both parties prepare for a legal showdown.

Paris Jackson's Legal Challenge Against Michael Jackson's Estate

On October 29, Paris Jackson filed a pivotal legal petition in the Los Angeles Superior Court against the executors of her late father, Michael Jackson’s estate. The actress and singer is seeking a distribution of $600 million to the Michael Jackson Family Trust, claiming that the estate's long-serving executors have inadequately funded the trust meant for her and her siblings, Prince and Bigi.

In her court filing, Jackson argues that there is no valid reason for the delay in transferring these funds, highlighting that nearly 17 years have elapsed since her father's passing. She specifically calls out executor John Branca, accusing him of exerting excessive control over asset distribution. The documents indicate that Michael Jackson's will specified that his children should receive portions of the trust upon turning 21, yet Jackson asserts that the executors have instead provided significantly lesser, discretionary amounts.

Dispute Over Estate Management and Allegations of Mismanagement

The petition claims that the estate has generated around $1 billion in revenue before taxes, yet the trust remains underfunded. Jackson contends that the estate has enough liquidity to distribute the requested funds, despite ongoing tax issues and previous legal battles. She also alleges that the payments to her and her siblings were slashed by millions after she sought legal advice regarding the estate's management last year, describing the current estate management as unacceptable.

In response, representatives for the Michael Jackson estate denied the allegations of withheld or reduced payments. The estate's legal team clarified that they are currently unable to fully fund the individual trusts and the charitable foundation due to unresolved legal challenges, particularly ongoing litigation with the IRS concerning $700 million in taxes and penalties. Although the estate has achieved a ruling to lower that tax liability, the situation remains unresolved.

Furthermore, the estate's representatives claimed that the assertion of withheld funds is unfounded, stating that over $200 million has already been allocated for the benefit of Paris Jackson and other beneficiaries. As the legal battle unfolds, a court hearing on the matter is set for December, with both parties' claims awaiting judicial scrutiny.
