Nora Fatehi Faces Backlash Over Controversial Song 'Sarke Chunar'
Nora Fatehi's Controversy Surrounding 'Sarke Chunar'
Recently, Nora Fatehi found herself in the midst of controversy regarding the Hindi version of KD's song Sarke Chunar. Following her performance, the song faced backlash, leading to its removal after government intervention. Both Nora and lyricist Raqueeb Alam distanced themselves from the track, issuing statements to clarify their positions. In an exclusive interview, Raqueeb shared that he had previously warned director Prem about the potential fallout from the Hindi adaptation of the song.
Raqueeb Alam Discusses the 'Sarke Chunar' Controversy
In his conversation, Raqueeb expressed his dissatisfaction with the lyrics of 'Sarke Chunar'. He recounted advising the director to create lyrics that aligned with his artistic vision. However, Prem insisted on a direct translation for the Hindi version. Raqueeb stated, "I told him that this isn't songwriting; it's merely translating. He insisted that since I had written songs before, I should handle this one too. I attempted to write a version that I felt was appropriate, but he rejected it, wanting a line-by-line translation instead. I ultimately refused to write it that way and suggested he find someone else for the task."
Raqueeb further mentioned that he advised Prem against including his name in the credits for the track, predicting that it would lead to significant controversy. He recalled Prem's assurance that he would handle any issues that arose.
Raqueeb Alam Reflects on His Career as a Lyricist
Continuing the discussion, Raqueeb shared his thoughts on the lack of respect for lyricists in the industry. He lamented, "While I receive payment for my work, I don't get the recognition I deserve. Despite having written numerous popular songs, I haven't been approached by anyone in Bollywood. This led me to shift my focus to South Indian cinema instead."
The song 'Sarke Chunar' was filmed three years ago and is part of the upcoming movie KD: The Devil, which features Sanjay Dutt and Shilpa Shetty. The film is set to hit theaters on April 30.
